Do you believe in The Great Pumpkin? Do you believe in Fairy Godmothers or Angels? Do you believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus? Ask a child involved with the Lynn Department of Children and Families (DCF) and their answer may just be yes. That child, who said, "Yes, I believe," has received packages of hope, comfort and joy from someone who believed that the neediest children must be cherished the most. They didn't even know her name. They just know that somehow they got new socks and underwear when they thought they might just die of embarrassment if they had to change for gym class in front of the other kids at school. They just know that last year, when they thought they might have to go to a community center for Thanksgiving they got a chance to be like "real" kids and have their very own turkey dinner at home. They just know that on Christmas Eve when they dreamt of a bright new shiny toy that they knew their parents could never buy, they woke up to a beautiful Christmas tree and the toy they had hoped for. They just know that when they had to come into foster care, a total stranger remembered their birthday, and better yet even knew what they liked! These things didn’t make their problems disappear but it made them stand a little bit prouder, feel a little better, dream a little more, and believe in possibilities. Your contributions will help send a child to camp, teach a child to dance or sing, buy a child a bike, give a child a holiday dinner, buy a child a holiday gift, or help a teen on the road to adulthood.
